Shared Education

St.Patrick’s has a very well established Shared Education Programme in place with Broughshane Primary School. This Programme fosters good relationships both within and outside our own school.

Mrs Marshall is the coordinator for this programme which currently involves pupils from KS2 (P5, P6 and P7). It is our aim that every child will have the opportunity to take part in the Shared Education Programme at least once during their time here in Primary School.

This year, our KS2 pupils have been participating in all things shared; Literacy, Numeracy, WAU, PDMU, ICT and P.E. We aim to deliver areas of the curriculum in a diverse and engaging way, utilizing teacher expertise and resources from both schools. Our programme is delivered on both sites, when appropriate, off site. This year we will be making the most of the local area by using Loughguile's Ball Wall and Slemish Mountain.

The purpose of Shared Education is to;

(a) deliver educational benefits to children and young persons;
(b) promote the efficient and effective use of resources;
(c) promote equality of opportunity;
(d) promote good relations; and
(e) promote respect for identity, diversity and community cohesion.

Through this programme it is intended that young people in both our schools will become better learners as a result of being challenged and engaged in a supportive environment, leading to a fuller and fresher understanding of reconciliation and respect for others. Staff benefit from sharing experience and expertise; and we hope that parents will see the very real benefits of our children coming together in a spirit of tolerance and respect, learning together for a better future.
